UFC 285 Final Thoughts.

What an unbelievable event. Here are my reactions/quick takes on some of the fights.

IAN GARRY VS KENAN SONG

What a fight. Ian looked sharp when he let his hands go. But he did get caught/dropped in the first by Song. And he appeared to be out but he recovered well. Ian pulled off a TKO finish in the 3rd and man… did Song take some damage.

BO NICKAL VS JAMIE PICKETT

I don’t think we have seen anyone come into the UFC with this much hype. Gets to start a PPV card headlined by Jon Jones in his UFC debut fight. I think everyone can agree we knew Bo was going to take him down immediately and sub him. Pickett did hang on for as long as he could but it was not enough. The headline coming out of this fight is “Did Bo hit Pickett with an illegal groin shot before the take down?” I don’t think this changed the outcome of this fight but it definitely did not help Pickett making this fight competitive.

GEOFF NEAL VS SHAVKAT RAKHMONOV

What an absolute banger of a fight. Both of these guys brought it. I don’t know if Neal purposely missed weight to try and get a little bit of help with size or if he had something going on in training camp. Regardless Dana made sure he got his part of the Fight of the Night bonus. To me this fight really showed us how good Rakhmonov is. His chin held up great against someone like Neal who has heavy hands and hit him with some nice shots. But mainly this guy never stops going for a finish. He could of easily coasted that last minute of the 3rd but he made sure he got that standing RNC to keep his finish streak going. This guy is the real deal. In my opinion, neither guy lost stock in this fight.

VALENTINA SHEVCHENKO VS ALEXA GRASSO

History…… what a moment for Alexa. She looked amazing on the feet. And when Valentina took her down she did very well to avoid danger. The way she took the back and got the choke was insane. All I could think was, she was waiting for that moment. She definitely saw that in footage and trained for that. I’m sure Valentina will get an immediate rematch and we will see if Alexa can replicate another victory. I think it will be hard to do but only time will tell. Awesome fight and moment in UFC history.

JON JONES VS CIRYL GANE

Jon Jones is the GOAT. What a performance. There’s not much to say about it, if I’m being honest. I just can’t wait to see him fight Stipe. As for Gane, I hope he gets a fight booked soon and gets his confidence back. He is still early in his career and I do think he has potential to be very great.

I loved this card. Didn’t Garry do well to recover from the knockdown? It was no stumble either, legs went.

Once he got into that flow… Amazing, stock up for him after that - wish he wouldn’t do that shit version of the billi strut afterwards tho.

Jones… easy work, too easy - scary as shit and glad he turned up as a jacked up heavyweight. He looks awesome.

Garry recovered well but he definitely collapsed. I thought it was awesome hearing him and his corner after that round. He knew he messed up and got caught. I think his stock is up for sure. He’s a fun one to watch I think. I’m with you on the bili strut lmao….

I just wanted to see more of Jones. I’m sure we will when he faces Stipe or at least I hope.

How fast did Grasso take that back? Jesus Christ that was quick! I think Valentina was ready for defeat, there for the taking..

I felt the same thing too. I had Grasso winning this fight. Valentina’s time is coming to end but I could be wrong. That division is going to be exciting.

Maybe you're right, there is a shelf life with that type of talent

IAN GARRY VS KENAN SONG

Massive amount of inexperience there from Song not capitalising on that knockdown.
