Before we start off, I would like to just say that this just my thoughts with fair reasoning to why I chose. This aside, I'm really excited for this fight because it has might just result in a war. I want to look at the past five fights and their records and discuss finish rates.
For victories, Aljamain has 2 KO/TKO's, 8 submission victories and 10 decisions, and that controversial DQ win. TJ has a record of 8 KO/TKO's, 3 submissions and 6 decisions (just a quick catch up for methods of victory)
This is one that I'm looking forward too because I'm actually curios to the outcome, both have the wrestling background and closer striking statistics than I imagined. In Aljamain's last five fights he attempted 54 takedowns, and landing 3. In comparison to T.J.'s 26 attempts and landing 7 of them. Going by this I would lean towards the wrestling advantage for T.J.
Striking wise, T.J. lands 5.26 strikes per minute compared to Aljo's 4.56, with an accuracy of 41% to 50%, with an absorption rate of 2.24 to 3.27 per minute and a defence rate of 60% to 63%.
Honestly, before looking at these figures I was 100% behind T.J. being the better striker, just due to his unique style and with Duane Ludwig in his corner and also having 8 KO/TKO's. Aljo's striking is underrated if you ask me but I'm looking at all aspects of output's, accuracy, absorption and defence.
So technically speaking it's hard to say who is the better striker, T.J's Bang Muay Thai style but with Aljo having the overall better striking statistics? With all things considered I'll stick with my guns and say T.J.
To conclude, I know that I've selected T.J. for better wrestling and striking, and seem like I've thrown shade at Aljo which believe it or not isn't the case. But i have this peculiar feeling that Aljamain will win, how? To me, more than likely by a decision but I wouldn't call it an upset if T.J won.
Agree or disagree? Tell me why! Regardless of how this will go down I'm quite sure it will be an enjoyable fight for us.

Wierd how there is literally no alpha male beef now that Cody is such a losing streak. Shame that, liked the rivalry between those two..
Yikes Garbrandt was hot headed in those days.. His book 'The Pact' is a good read by the way if anyones interested. Prob one of the best MMA books out there, wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a movie one day.
Yeah itβs strange alright π such a stellar year in 2016 for him too
Have you ever seen a fighter fall so hard from grace?
Similar to Chuck Liddell I think but Cody is a good bit younger than Chuck was at his eventually downfall, if you ask me
My money was always on TJ for this one, so itβll be interesting to see what happens
TJ is looking in sharp shape for sure! Very curios/excited for the striking exchanges
Hadn't considered this.. π€
Itβs definitely something to be taken into consideration, which I hadnβt considered prior to researching this π§
Who would you say has the highest general fight IQ?
I really don't like to seem like a T.J. fanboy here but i'm gonna say T.J. haha, just from past performances etc. But looking at how Aljo definitely came into the rematch with Petr much more intelligent, he adjusted accordingly for sure
Relevant for UFC 280... Free fight!
