Why don't the WBC, WBA and IBF release MMA rankings and allow fighters to compete for their open ranked world MMA titles?

Ignoring the fact that each have 'boxing' in the title, wouldn't this be a good idea for a more open market for MMA fighters, so they could compete for a WBC, WBA, WBO or IBF MMA world title?

These rankings and titles carry so much weight in combat sports already..

It's an interesting question for sure. I believe (and I may be wrong here) that in boxing, the organisation gets paid a fee from the fighter once they win a title and that is how they are funded. I am not sure the MMA community would take an WBC title holder seriously as it so attached to boxing, the reality is that the fan base for both these sports are hugely different and there is very little cross over.
