Damn Ortega has some chin on him doesn't he? I think they run that back, let's hope Ortega's recovery is swift and he can get back in there because that was warming up to be a cracker... (also loved the sportsmanship and mutual respect afterwards).
Not sure what happens with Tate after that performance but it definitely won't be Shevchenko π¬.
I also watched Michelle Waterson who is winning on Instagram atm (some seriously cool posts, see below) - I am glad Amanda Lemos got her out with a submission, I wouldn't have wanted one of those bombs to eventually land, and props to the Karate Hottie for acknowledging the tap even though the ref didn't see it.
What did you guys think? Then itβs on to the next UFC, with Aspinall, in London! (I'll get that thread up on Monday morning).

I'm going to hibernate for a week, I was so amped up for that main event
Me too - I think took longer to do Ortega's hair.. he looked pissed.
Man I was so ready to write something on this as well. Hate that I've got to wait a week and I can't even get started early on my research because I've already watched up on Blaydes and Aspinall. Just gonna have to get an early start on Moreno and KKF.
Hope Ortega heals up soon for sure. He said it's a dislocation rather than a tear but I guess they don't actually know that yet. The ideal scenario is a rematch as I do think if Ortega could weather the storm he'd get it done.
Also rough because we've now lost Volk vs Oliveira I think. As much as I want Oliveira to win I think it'll probably be Islam and that's a way less compelling fight to me.
I hear ya on Volk bro, that wouldβve been the fight of the year for me- it also looked like Rodriguezβs work dislocated the arm.
Yeah it definitely did, but in the same way that Dustin's checks shattered Conor's leg. Yair was going for an arm bar, trying to hyperextend the elbow. It was Ortega pulling out of the submission that dislocated his shoulder, which isn't something that happens much at all as the armbar attacks the elbow joint, to my understanding.
Should it be a TKO? For sure, Yair's action caused the stoppage. That being said, there's a crowd that's trying to claim Yair submitted Ortega with an armbar which just isn't really true at all. Yair's intention had nothing to do with the shoulder and his attack shouldn't have involved it. Freak accident for sure imo
Point taken. In the Dustin v Conor fight though, wasn't it a 'Doctors Stoppage' - I have no idea if that is even a thing..
Yeah officially it was a TKO- Doctor's Stoppage because the ringside doctor was the one who informed the ref to call it off. The round ended and between rounds it was found that McGregor's leg had snapped. I believe in Ortega's case it was a TKO- Shoulder Injury because the doctor wasn't involved in calling the fight, Keith Peterson saw the shoulder had dislocated and called it there
It was a TKO. I think the doctors stoppage thing became a bit of a meme.
I saw that Ortega has also had 2 shoulder surgeries in the past. The injuries and joint issues these top end BJJ guys suffer long term is no joke.
In other news.. Oliveira-Makhachev set for UFC 280 on Oct. 22
Canβt see Oliveira getting past Makhachev here. I canβt wait to see it though.
Here's the post fight press conference. Always find Dana White entertaining. Interesting hearing me deal with Nate Diaz questions.
Michelle Waterson's IG post. Pretty cool, wonder how she did it? An agency with Adobe After Effects?
I saw this, she is so cool
