Welcome to the first edition of the This MMA Life Newsletter!
It has been an interesting few months in the world of MMA, so let's kick things off with some athlete news.
Leon Edwards is back.
Yep if you didn't know it already, Leon 'Rocky' Edwards is finally back against Khamzat Chimaev on Sun, 20 Dec at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
It has been a rough year for Leon, his UFC bout was the first to get cancelled due to COVID19. He was then out of action due to lockdown rules, unable to train he had no choice but to turn down offers from the UFC. More recently things heated up when Leon was matched up against surging contender Khamzat Chimaev but something happened where the fight wasn't actually signed, Leon got dropped from the UFC welterweight rankings until the bout was signed, and then he re-appeared in the rankings!
This fight is one of the most anticipated matchups of the year, to the casual fan it might look like a typical UFC fight night, but trust me, you need to tune in.
McGregor is back!

Conor shared DM's with Dana White revealing how he has been negotiating with the UFC for a while to continue his 2020 season. When nothing happened, and after sharing the DM's with Dana on Twitter, Conor then reached out to Dustin Poroir to arrange am MMA 'exhibition bout' in Ireland and Conor offered Dustin $500k for his The Good Fight charity.
Dustin immediately agreed to Conor's request and there you have it, the UFC watched as their biggest star began to arrange his own MMA promotional event outside of their brand and without breaching his contract. I wonder if this is something Conor will do again in the future? Either way, the UFC immediately got in touch with both athletes and now they are due to face of on January the 23rd 2012 at Fight Island Abu Dhabi.
Paul Felder stepping in against Dos Anjos on only 5 days notice! Wow, incredible, that decision has really resonated well with the MMA community. Absolute hero to the UFC and I am sure they will look after him long term, he even turned up to do the commentary on Dana White's contender series the week after 🤯
Deiveson Figueiredo beat Alex Perez in his first successful flyweight title defence at UFC 255, it was a submission win in the first round. Figueiredo was disappointed that he didn't get the $50k fight of the night bonus but Dana White put that right a bit later down the line confessing that he had "fu**** that one up"

Deiveson Figueiredo has a major year in the UFC and is slated to return again for UFC 256 Figueiredo vs Moreno. This may put him up for a contender for the fighter of the year award.
